As the teams gathered for their final pre-match chats, Cheddar huddled together in the middle of the pitch with an air of focus and concentration, while Knowle loitered on the sideline gathered around a whiteboard covered in the remnants of a game of ‘Speed-c*ck’ – draw your own conclusions about this and which team have a more productive pre-game routine…
Cheddar were quick out of the blocks, pressed high and our defence were put under more pressure than they have been so far this season. According to Statler and Waldorf who were on the sideline again, it took us a good 20mins to settle into the game and get a pass off, let alone out of our own half, to someone not wearing blue and green… a bit of an exaggeration, but the gist is probably fair. Once we had got it together a bit, we began to get our own attack going and by half-time we were 2-0 up. The theory goes that a 2-0 lead is the hardest to go on and win from, and Cheddar followed up a short with a goal-mouth scramble to spoil our clean sheet record and go 2-1. However, immediately from the pushback, Sam ran the ball round pretty much all of the Cheddar team and Kelly converted the attack for her hat-trick. And that’s what happens when you score against the Knowle…
Game finished up 3-1, and while the votes were again spread across the team, with nods to Soph, Kate, April, Bolti, Ally and Aimz, Kelly snuck Player of Match this week. At the opposite end of the scale, Aimz’s teatime query of ‘Does Cheddar come from Cheddar?’ earned her the occasionally-awarded-for-supreme-numptiness ‘Dick of the Day’ title. And speaking of teas, tartiflette and strawberry prosecco cake ensured Knowle’s reputation for ‘great hockey, even better teas’ endures into next week. Yum.
